Why I started Lampensoft

The list

I started Lampensoft in 2014 for the niche applications I wanted to build, and for years never had the time to build them. AI shortened the implementation, and the list is finally moving.

What I build

I expect AI to replace a lot of software, and much of what remains to merge with it. Many apps are turning into a question you ask an assistant.

Some software is still hard to replace that way: applications rooted in hardware, and applications that give you more control over AI than a chat window does. LampenCam tracks your phone’s movement in real time and drives a camera in Blender. Multicam ↗ lets ChatGPT see your workbench, but only through the phone cameras you name, one snapshot at a time, never a stream or recording.

Picania, my estate-sale app, brings several AI models together, vision and language, on the phone and in the cloud, into one tool with best-effort privacy protection on by default. A chat assistant can do some of the same, but more slowly and with less control.

Experience

I’ve been building and running production software since 2010. I started as a developer, then team lead. For nearly ten years after that I led DevOps and infrastructure, first as lead and then as director: AWS infrastructure, SOC 2 and PCI compliance, incident response, deployment pipelines and the internal tools behind them. Today I’m a senior engineering manager.

Lampensoft is my hobby. I build these apps in my own time, outside my day job, and Lampensoft isn’t connected to my employer.
